Vampires Suck (And Some Puns Are Lame)

I don't know how I manage to find the time to do so, but I've knocked out a new review over at the S@TM blog. With today seeing the release of the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, I figured I'd go ahead and post my review of the franchise's second entry, New Moon. So go check it out, won't you?

Check out the review, I mean, not Eclipse. Screw Eclipse. (Though knowing some of the Twihards, they would try to screw Eclipse.)

Woody's Not The Only Movie Cowboy

Though you might not know it from the box office numbers, Toy Story 3 wasn't the only new movie released last Friday. There was also the latest comic book adaptation, Jonah Hex. Considering that it got a lot of bad reviews and opened up against Toy Story 3, its rather miserable opening weekend wasn't surprising.

But because I'm a sucker that has to see all of the Marvel and DC movies, I went and saw it last night. And yeah, it wasn't as good as I'd hoped for. It didn't totally suck, but it wasn't anything more than okay, I guess.

You know what? If you really want to know my thoughts on Jonah Hex, just click this link. You don't mind clicking a link for me, do you? I hope not, because I'd kinda like you to.

Arrr, Matey

So... how's things? I hope you're doing swell. Here, everything is peachy. Can't complain. Work's been going relatively well, even if today was kinda boring.

Before I headed off to work this afternoon, though, I managed to find enough time to post my review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I probably should have written it three years ago, but better late than never, I guess. So if you would be so kind, go check out the review and tell your friends. If you did, that'd be super.

Stories About Toys

Want to know something that's awesome? I'll tell you: Toy Story 3.

My mom and I had both been wanting to see Pixar's latest animated adventure, and since I had today off, we headed out to see it. And as with the first two Toy Story movies (and most of Pixar's other movies, really), Toy Story 3 is awesome.

I absolutely loved Toy Story 3, no two ways about it. It's a fantastic flick that is most certainly worth seeing once you get the chance to. I literally have nothing negative to say about it. It's so much fun, so charming, so heartwarming that I dare you to see it and not fall in love with it. I'm going to go ahead and give it four stars, and urge you to see it now. The movie is awesome, awesome, awesome, and if you don't go see it, then I'll have to shun you forever. Don't make me do that, man.

Game Over

So do you remember that whole "Resident Evil 5 war journal" thing I was talking about? Yeah, forget I ever said anything about that. I actually beat the game this past Tuesday, and the fact that I'm just now blogging about it really show how interested I was in keeping track of my progress here. I guess I shouldn't have brought it up at all if I wasn't going to actually go through with it.

But anyway, my final playing time was somewhere in the neighborhood of nine hours. I was killed right around twenty times, eleven by the last boss alone. It was my first playthrough and I wasn't using any cheats from GameFAQs, so I guess all of that was to be expected. Maybe the next time around, I'll have an easier go at it.

Then again, I wish I could have an easier go at everything. But hey, that's life, right?

I Pity The Fool

With today being my day off from work, I decided to make the most of it by heading out to see the new A-Team movie. I must admit that I never really got into the TV show; no particular reason, I just never watched it enough to call myself a fan. But the trailers and commercials were enough to sell me on the movie. It looked like something I wanted to see. And I'm glad I did see it, because the A-Team movie is a heck of a lot of fun.

It does have its flaws, primarily in the form of a weak plot and that crappy style of cinematography where the camera is shaking all over the place during the action scenes. But outside of that, The A-Team is an entertaining ride that I enjoyed a lot. The action is exciting when the camera wasn't shaking, the jokes are funny, and the acting is stellar. The four actors who platy the A-Team are particularly great, especially Sharlto Copley, who I thought was nothing short of hilarious.

So if you're looking for my advice, I'll tell you to go see The A-Team. It's a fun movie that won't disappoint. On my usual Five-Star Sutton Scale, the movie gets three and a half stars (leaning towards four) and a proud recommendation. So go see it, huh?

CGI Zombies At The Movies

Another day, another post about Resident Evil. This time around, I actually just finished a new review of the CG-animated movie Resident Evil: Degeneration over at "Sutton at the Movies." I'd been aiming to review it for some time, but just now got around to it.

So click the link and get to reading, okay? Alright.

Sutton vs. The Monsters

As I said previously, I picked up Resident Evil 5 last weekend. I've been playing it when I can, a half hour here, and hour there. What I've found about it is that it's basically Resident Evil 4 with the action elements turned up by something like 1000 percent. It's crazy how much action is in this game. You know there's a ton of it when you fight your way through a swarm of psychos trying to kill you, only to hop into the back of a Humvee and open fire on the psychos with a machine gun when they start chasing you with motorcycles.

But what kind of adventures have I been having? That's a good question, especially considering I was planning on doing a "war journal" about my exploits. What good is a war journal if I don't keep a journal about the war? So let's jump into this thing and see what's what.

The basic gist of the plot is that somebody has taken an evolved version of the Las Plagas parasite from Resident Evil 4 and set it loose on some podunk little town in Africa. Yeah, because the Las Plagas things were so nice and friendly before, we had to have meaner, deadlier versions of them for the next sequel. It's like Capcom wants my character to get his head ripped off or something.

Anyway, I've assumed the role of Chris Redfield, star of the first Resident Evil game and all-around badass. As a member of a worldwide anti-bioterrorism task force, he's been sent to Africa to help deal with the situation. Assisting him (and me) is Sheva Alomar, a local member of said task force.

Thanks to all the nasties and creepy-crawlies, Chris, Sheva, and I are without backup beyond one another. And I kinda wish that wasn't the case. I finished the second chapter of the game yesterday morning, and I've already fought something that looked like one of the slug monsters from Resident Evil Zero, a giant insect thing with bat wings, and an even angrier reprisal of the El Gigante from Resident Evil 4. Plus there was the whole bit where I had to repel all those motorcycle-riding bad guys with my trusty machine gun.

When I ended, I'd just defeated the new and improved African El Gigante. Chris had found proof that his thought-dead partner, Jill Valentine, may still be alive. To get to the bottom of this mystery, Chris, Sheva, and myself are heading to the marshlands outside of town, where the weapons smuggler we're following is supposedly helping construct more monsters. I'm going to jump back into the game before I had to work this afternoon, so I'll see just how far I can make it before my next entry into my Resident Evil 5 war journal. Stay tuned.

Work And Play

Hey, everybody, what's up? I hope you guys had a great Memorial Day and are enjoying the month of July thus far. I can't complain, personally.

This past Sunday was a rough day, however, thanks to me getting caught up in some really frustrating bullcrap at work. If Sunday was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, then I was Glass Joe. Even thinking about it drains all the energy from me. So instead of going into the details, let's move on, shall we?

Instead, I'd like to talk about happy times. Who doesn't like happy times? My birthday was on Saturday, making yours truly one year closer to 30. Yikes. It's weird thinking about it, but the fact that I'm 28 now... wow. I'm not sure how to really feel about it.

I'd have been happier if I didn't have to work on my birthday, but what can you do? And even as crappy as Sunday was, I did manage to have a smile put on my face over the weekend by getting a few new PS3 games. One of them was a game I'd been looking to get for over a year now, Resident Evil 5. I've never made it a secret that I'm a fan of the Resident Evil franchise, and similar to what I and the now-defunct New Hampshire Joyride did with Resident Evil 4 a few years back, I've been thinking of keeping a "war journal" chronicling my battles with biological weapons in a third-world African country. The war journals following my exploits might be infrequent due to my work schedule, but it might be a fun little distraction. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

I also picked up Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City, so I've got plenty of M-rated gaming goodness for my PS3. Between that and work, I'll never have a minute of free time, will I?
