Let's Talk Movies For A Second

Hey, folks, I hope you're having a great April thus far. Mine's been going okay, save for UConn beating Kentucky in the Final Four. Work's been... well, tolerable at the least, which is about all I can say about it. So let's move on.

Both yesterday and last Tuesday, I headed out to the movies to check out something new. Last week was Sucker Punch, a movie so utterly terrible that I had to immediately review it over at the S@TM blog. But to sum it up here, Sucker Punch sucks hard. Do not watch it. Ever. Even if someone offers to buy your ticket for you. Even if you own the theater that's showing it. It is truly awful.

On the other hand, I did enjoy the movie I saw last night. The movie in question: Insidious, the latest from Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. I actually didn't have much interest in the movie until I heard more than a few positive reviews, While I didn't feel Insidious was quite as good as I'd been led to believe, it's a really creepy flick that I just can't hate on at all.

Really, there are only a few outright scary moments in Insidious. It's actually more about establishing a creepy, unsettling, almost nightmare-like atmosphere. There's more than a few moments - the "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" scene, for instance - where you almost have to make yourself laugh at how bizarre it is because it'll otherwise freak you out. The movie is just so weird that I'm not sure how to accurately describe it. Bit it is most certainly worth the watch because it's one spooky flick.

It'll probably be able to critique it better once i see it a second time, maybe after its DVD release, but I'm going to give Insidious three and a half stars on the usual scale. And while I liked the movie, its tagline is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. I mean, "Insidious Is Insidious" is stupid. What the hell does that even mean?
