A Festival of Scares

I noted in my last post that I had something going on that I was hoping to write about. And it might have taken me a full week to get off my lazy butt and do it, but now's the time to get that post out of the way.

The big thing I wanted to post about: the fifth-annual Scarefest horror and paranormal convention here in Kentucky. I'm a big fan of the Scarefest, and I'd honestly been anticipating this year's edition since the end of last year's. I was a little disappointed that two of the horror celebrities that I'd wanted to meet - Malcolm McDowell and Clive Barker - had to back out of the convention due to health reasons. But you can't help stuff like that, and I was bound and determined to have a good time regardless. And after having spent three days witnessing the sights and sounds of the Scarefest, the final verdict is that I had an absolute blast.

I won't lie and say that the allure of getting to meet some movie stars isn't what drew me to the Scarefest. That was a huge part of it. But after having been to three of the five Scarefests, I'm not going for just the stars anymore. There's the vendors, the movies, the activities. And just getting to meet some interesting people, whether they be famous or not, is a really cool experience. Seeing and doing things that I would more than likely never get to do elsewhere or at any other time during the year makes the whole Scarefest thing totally worth it.

Yeah, it was a bit tiring to drive an hour there, stay until 2:00 in the morning, then drive another hour home three days in a row. And I caught a bit of "con flu" too. But I wouldn't trade last weekend for absolutely anything. If you haven't been to the Scarefest (or any convention like this, really), you haven't really lived. My mother doesn't like most modern horror movies and even she went and loved every second of it.

The only bad part of the whole thing? Having to wait a year for the 2013 Scarefest. It's times like this that I wish time travel existed.
