A Little Work, A Little Play

Things are going about as well as could be expected around here. As for the new job, we'll have to wait and see about that. I spent Thursday and Friday sitting in front of a computer in the personnel office, reading about company policies and safety procedures and all that other stuff. It practically bored me to tears, but then I've never been the type of person to enjoy that sort of thing. I'm hoping that they'll put me to work when I punch in tomorrow, because I'd much rather do that than be bored.

With work talk out of the way, how about a little fun? The bad movie marathon is still rolling onward, and its latest stop takes me to a crappy little movie called Gymkata. Click the link and read the review to see just what I had to say about it.

I have at least two or three more movies lined up in the bad movie marathon, but I'm looking at adding one more. I recently "acquired" a copy of New Moon, and though I have yet to watch it, I might have to so I can review it. I'm anticipating a high level of suck from it, so it may be perfect for the bad movie marathon. But knowing my luck, I'll end up liking it. I doubt it, but who knows?

Working For The Weekend

When I finally got my drivers license a year and a half ago, it was a huge step forward for me. Granted, it's a step I should have taken in 1998, but at least I got it done. And now, I'm on the verge of taking another really big step in life. In less than 24 hours, I'm starting orientation on my first real job. Yes, I'm finally gainfully employed, and I'm pretty darn proud of myself.

The job in question will take me to the sporting goods department of Walmart. It's only part time, but part time is better than no time, right? I'd rather be on full time, but I'll take what I can get and see where that takes me for now.

The bad thing, though, is that the Walmart I'll be working at is all the way in Frankfort, which is nearly an hour away. I've got to admit that I'm not completely, 100% sold on the idea of driving all that way for a part time job at $7.80 an hour. But there's nothing that says I won't get full time hours eventually, right? Of course not, stop worrying.

So yeah, I'm among the working folk now. And as nervous as I am, that's pretty cool to say (or to type, in this instance). I'm really looking forward to seeing how it'll turn out. I mean, this is a pretty big deal for me. I hope you regular readers will wish me luck, because I think I may need it.

You Can't Piss On Hospitality

I've resumed my bad movie marathon, and in doing so, I just may have started peeling away the bottom of the barrel to see what's actually underneath said barrel. The reason I say this is because I've just posted my newest review. Called one of the worst movies of all time, and the subject of the documentary Best Worst Movie, the new review in question is my take on Troll 2.

Yes, the same Troll 2 that quite nearly drove me insane when I saw it for the first time back in January. I said back then that I just had to do it for S@TM sooner or later, and now I've finally done it. So go click that link, won't you? I don't want to just write about bad movies for no reason. I mean, have you seen Troll 2? Come on, who writes about that and doesn't want to share it?

Remembering A Lost Boy

One week ago today, Corey Haim sadly died at his home in Burbank. He'd essentially been something of a "has-been" for the last decade or two, but as a lover of '80s pop culture, he'll always be cool in my eyes.

To mourn his death and celebrate his life, I decided to extend the intermission on my bad-movie marathon and review my favorite of Haim's movies, The Lost Boys. So go click that link and check it out.

Rest in peace, Corey.

A Brief Intermission

After The Room, I had to take a break from all the bad movies. I needed to review something good, a movie that could serve as a palate cleanser. Thus, I'll point you in the direction of my newest review: Sherlock Holmes.

But this is just a brief reprieve from my bad movie marathon. Netflix is sending me another movie that I'm absolutely dreading. I'm going to keep it a surprise until I get it posted, but believe me, it's an awful, awful, awful movie.

Why did I start this bad movie marathon, anyway? Am I that much of a masochist?

"Room" For Improvement

When I decided to review a series of bad movies for the S@TM blog, I thought I'd built up a tolerance strong enough to keep my sanity intact.

I was wrong.

I thought I'd seen bad when I reviewed Showgirls. I thought I'd seen bad when I reviewed Howard the Duck. I thought I'd seen bad when I reviewed Manos: The Hands of Fate. But even Manos pales in comparison to the unrelenting terror of The Room.

The Room has been called "the Citizen Kane of bad movies," which may sound like a bunch of hype. But I want you to know that it's the absolute truth. It takes the idea of bad movies and turns it into an art form. If bad movies were put in museums, The Room would be the Mona Lisa.

And I don't want to pat myself on the back, but I actually think it led to one of my better reviews as far as writing goes. But I'll just leave it up to you, the readers, to make the final judgment on that, though. I must also say that it's too bad I don't do video reviews, because then you'd have seen what me having a complete nervous breakdown looks like. That's how awful The Room is.

So please, go read my review. And then, if you think sanity is overrated, go find a copy of the movie and watch it. I'm hoping that it'll be like the cursed videotape in The Ring, where I'll be a little less crazy if someone else watches it. If not, at least I won't be alone in having seen the movie.
