Justice League: The Movie?

I was doing a little reading around this wacky thing we call the Internet, and I noticed a bit of news about how Warner Brothers is considering doing a Justice League movie. A script is being written, but that's no guarantee that it'll ever be anything more than that. But if a Justice League movie is put into production, how would they do it?

If it were up to me, I'd probably want to do seperate movies for each of the core members first, as kind of an introduction to them. They've already done Superman and Batman, and Flash and Wonder Woman movies are being worked on, so that leaves Green Lantern, the Martian Manhunter, and maybe Aquaman and/or Hawkgirl (depending on what "core members" they decided to use). That could get tricky. I could be wrong, but I don't think Hawkgirl and the Manhunter have a whole lot of big-name recognition. And people outright mock Aquaman for being kinda lame, so I don't know what kind of a reaction he'd get. And a Green Lantern movie could be complicated too, since his power ring can do pretty much any random thing he wants it to. It's like he's wearing a great big deus ex machina on his finger. So unless he fought Sinestro or somebody else with a power ring, people might just figure there'd be no drama in it and ignore a Green Lantern movie.

If they hadn't already done the Justice League TV series, I think Warner Brothers and DC could easily do something similar to Marvel's straight-to-DVD Avengers and Iron Man cartoons. They could make a mighty crapload of money doing that. But if they've got their hearts set on doing a live-action Justice League movie, I hope they can find a way to make it without it feeling crowded like the X-Men movies. I mean, the X-Men trilogy is like friggin' War & Peace with all the characters running around.

But I'm not going to worry about a Justice League movie right now. I'm too busy looking forward to The Dark Knight. That's going to be too awesome.

With Joss Whedon leaving the Wonder Woman project, I have a very bad feeling about it.

A Flash movie should be very do-able, though I wonder if the fact that there's been now 4 Flashes will get in the way. Which one do you pick to base the movie off of? Whichever one, you piss off someone.

Green Lantern has the same problem, only moreso. You could probably eliminate all the aliens, the really esoteric (Charlie Vicker anyone?), and the comparatively minor to the non comic fan (sorry Jade and Guy Gardner), and that leaves you with Alan Scott, Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Kyle Rayner. And John, you have only popular for his cartoon Justice League/Justice League Unlimited character. Plus, this movie will live and die on whether

non cheesy effects for the ring power could be designed.

Martian Manhunter solo projects haven't really done well even in the comics medium. It's a hard character for fans to get behind. He's VERY alien. At least Superman looks like us and was raised by us.

Hawkgirl, again, is a case of a Justice League/Justice League Unlimited character really making the character as a whole more interesting than the comics. The combination of a magic mace that could do anything and that patented attitude was GOLD. A movie could work, but you might have to pay royalties to the cartoon.

Another possibility... how about a Zatanna movie... hot chick in fishnets who can do ANYTHING just by speaking it backwards? That has some possibilities.

Any thoughts on the Wonder Twins?

The Wonder Twins are lame, but at least they aren't Wendy and Marvin.

Ooh, idea! I think the Justice League movie could borrow an idea from the first Scooby Doo movie. There was a scene where they were talking about Scrappy Doo, and all they could talk about was how awful and annoying he was. They could do the same with the Wonder Twins.

If they did that with the Wonder Twins I'd buy a ticket just for that.

Honestly, I don't think a live action JLA would work real well. It's hard enough to get one believable hero on screen at a time, let alone five to seven of them. Plus, the more heroes thrown in there the less there is for all of them to do. See: X-Movies, Cyclops.

You know, Wendy & Marvin have appeared in the modern DC Universe in a sense... as twin genius tech wonks who work at Titans Tower.

And Lib has a good point. Plus you'd end up with someone doing the Halle Berry thing and complaining the movie wasn't more about them.

Yeah, the Wonder Twins are in the comics too. That doesn't mean any of them suck any less. :P

And if I were Brett Ratner, I'd have just told Halle to shut up and do what she was told. Last time she had a comic book movie all about her, it ended up being a great big steaming turd.

Actually, the Wonder Twins suck at least a little less than in the cartoon... but then again, how could they not? ;)

What I could never get is when the Wonder Twins got a plan to split up and look for something. If they split up, they're pretty much powerless.

Also, DarkHelm and I fully endorse SeanBaby's theory that all those "Teen Trouble Alerts" should have been ignored so that Darwinism could take its course.

If they DO include the Wonder Twins, I hope they'd go the full monty and include some of the other Superfriends like Apache Chief or Black Vulcan. That'd be aweosme.

Well, remember that Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, Samurai, El Dorado, et al. aren't DC characters. They're Hanna Barbera, and thus now Turner property I believe.

However, Black Vulcan was a rip off of DC character Black Lightning so as to avoid paying his creator.

Just as long as they don't do the crappy Justice League International team.

That would suck ass.

Hanna-Barbera and Warner Brothers are both owned by the same company (AOL Time Warner), so I assume that all of the non-DC Superfriends could be used.

Hey, the JLI team managed to be behind the two Super Buddies stories, which IIRC, you went on record as enjoying.

I still think you might have enjoyed the team more if it didn't have the Justice League label on it... the problem is, though, if THEY weren't the Justice League at that time, then either no one would have been, or someone worse would have been.

In fact, I'd say if done right, a Booster Gold movie could be a big success.

It's just, realistically, such a project would have to be pretty far down the list right now for DC with their relative issues getting ANY movies out compared to Marvel.

Could you be any more of a Booster Gold fanboy? :P

Let he who is without fanboy cast the first stone.

But seriously, with the right script, it could work.

He was the center of a very good episode of Justice League Unlimited.
