Jason X: The Future of Slashers? Doubtful.

Me and Mo went to Campbellsville to see Jason X last night, after ourselves and Will went to Lexington to see Changing Lanes on Wednesday. Changing Lanes was really great, better than I expected. Do yourself a favor and see it now.

Since I'm a fan of the Friday The 13th series, here's my review of Jason X, which I posted on some online forums I visit...

To be blunt, I thought it was pretty cool. It's like Alien with a 300-pound guy with a knife instead of an acid-bleeding monster. Many of the kills got "oohs" and "ahhs" from the crowd, but the two definitive "holy crap" moments involved some liquid nitrogen, and the second involved a giant screw. See it, and you'll know what I mean. The crowd was really digging the movie, and they were really into the homage of the past sequels (including a direct reference to a scene in Friday The 13th, Part 7).

A little comment about the end of the movie: They could have done a LOT better with the way Jason was "killed." It's just kinda there. There's a big bang and poof! It's just over. The acting wasn't the best, but definately an improvement of past Friday The 13th movies. It could be worse: they could have put the casts of parts 5 and 8 together. Many of the one-liners and jokes (though really corny) were very well-received, and some of them were downright funny. The effects were also really impressive, and the film was really enjoyable. It really surpassed my expectations.

Don't take my word for it, though. If you're at all interested in Jason X, go see it. But don't go in thinking it'll be the savior of all horror movies. It isn't. It's just a quirky little popcorn flick. The movie will be more enjoyable if you're a fan of the series, but if you liked the Alien movies, I think you'll like it too. I, for one, wasn't disappointed.

That's my review for Jason X. Thanks for reading.
